Reuters is reporting that on October 4, 2024, Google began testing a new feature that adds verified check marks next to certain businesses in its search

Do we think this will be the first real step along the way to get companies and individual websites to pay to be listed in search…? or Perhaps pay per click without running ads?
I think at the moment verified results that they are testing are free. I guess they could end up charging for them, but then that would just be an ad product and not really have anything to do with ranking I would hope.
